The Translation of the Bible
The Luther Bible was not the first German Translation of the Bible, of course. However, it was the most influential. By the time scholars had preferred to write in Latin and only few people could read their works. Luther’s Bible reformed religion allowing people to read and understand the Bible thus establishing a law and moral teachings which everyone could abide by. Moreover, it not only reformed religion, but also the German language. With his German Translation of the Bible, Luther popularized the Saxon dialect making it common literary language used in books. Subsequently, Luther found a State Church and educated his followers thus encouraging the spirit of teaching and establishing a law-abiding community and enhancing the educational reform throughout Germany.
